๐Ÿ“– Reading Passage

Native audio

When Daniel turned sixteen, he looked for a part-time job to save money for a summer trip. He had no experience, so he wrote a short letter about his school results, his football team, and his weekend work helping his uncle paint houses. He gave the letter to five shops near his home. Three shops never answered, one said he was too young, but the owner of a small bakery invited him for an interview. The owner asked why Daniel wanted the job, what hours he could work, and how he would treat difficult customers. Daniel answered honestly: he wanted to learn, he could work Saturday mornings and two evenings a week, and he would stay polite even when customers were rude. He started the next Saturday. His tasks were simple but tiring: carry bags of flour, clean tables, pack bread, and serve customers during busy morning hours. At first he forgot prices and dropped a tray of rolls, but older workers helped him and showed him faster ways to pack. After two months he received his first pay and felt proud. He learned to arrive on time, manage money, and talk to strangers with confidence. In the end, small steady habits decide progress more than any single lesson, and learners who review a little each day keep what they study.

๐Ÿ“ Grammar Notes

This lesson practices clear paragraph structure: one main idea per paragraph, stated first, supported with two concrete details, and closed with a linking sentence. Prefer active verbs and precise nouns. Connect ideas with however for contrast, furthermore for addition, and therefore for consequence. Keep sentences under twenty-five words so each claim stays traceable to its evidence. Practice by labeling each sentence in the reading: underline the main verb, circle the time marker, and check that every they and it points to a named noun. Rewrite any three sentences in your own words while keeping tense and meaning intact. Theme: social issues. Reading: A Part-Time Job.
