A2 Shopping Part 10: Shopping
Lesson 50 of 10 in this unit.
π Reading Passage
For his twelfth birthday, Sam received a red bicycle from his parents. It was the gift he had wanted for a whole year. The bicycle was bright red with black tires and a small bell on the handle. On the first day, his father took him to the park to practice. Sam was afraid of falling, so his father held the back of the seat and ran beside him. After one hour, Sam could ride slowly by himself. After one week, he could ride fast and turn corners safely. Every morning he now rides his bicycle to school with his best friend. They wear helmets, stop at every crossing, and lock their bicycles near the school gate. On weekends, Sam rides to the library to borrow books, or to his grandmother's house two streets away. His grandmother always gives him juice and biscuits when he arrives. Once Sam fell off because the road was wet, but he wore his helmet and only hurt his knee a little. His father taught him to check the brakes and tires every week. Sam cleans his bicycle every Sunday and says it is his most important possession in the world. In the end, small steady habits decide progress more than any single lesson, and learners who review a little each day keep what they study.

π Grammar Notes
Comparatives compare two items: cheaper than, more colorful than. Superlatives pick one of many: the cheapest, the freshest. Use too plus adjective for excess and enough after adjectives for sufficiency. Polite requests use could and would: could you wrap this, I would like two kilos. Practice by labeling each sentence in the reading: underline the main verb, circle the time marker, and check that every they and it points to a named noun. Rewrite any three sentences in your own words while keeping tense and meaning intact. Theme: shopping. Reading: A New Bicycle. As a final check, read the passage once more and label every verb for tense, every noun for countability, and every connector for function. Keep a short error log of your own recurring mistakes and review it before writing. This routine turns isolated rules into durable habits across all five hundred lessons.
