๐Ÿ“– Reading Passage

Native audio

The city celebrated last month when the new train line finally opened after four years of building work. The line connects the busy city center with three growing suburbs, and local leaders hope it will reduce traffic on the crowded roads. During the first week, more than fifty thousand people used the new trains, which was far more than anyone expected. Passengers say the trains are clean, quiet, and usually on time. Each train has wide doors, space for bicycles, and free wireless internet, which makes the morning trip much easier for students and office workers. The project was not simple. Builders had to dig tunnels under two rivers, move hundreds of old pipes, and protect several historic buildings along the route. The total cost reached two billion dollars, and many people complained that the money could have built new schools or hospitals instead. Supporters answer that better transport brings new jobs and raises the value of houses near the stations. Small shops and cafes have already opened near three of the new stops. The mayor promised that ticket prices will stay low for the first two years so that everyone can afford the service. Engineers are now watching the system carefully to fix small problems before the busy winter season begins.

๐Ÿ“ Grammar Notes

Modal verbs give advice with graded force: should for recommendation, must for obligation, should not for warning. Use present perfect for symptoms over time: I have coughed for three days. Conditionals frame habits: if you sleep late, you feel tired. Practice by labeling each sentence in the reading: underline the main verb, circle the time marker, and check that every they and it points to a named noun. Rewrite any three sentences in your own words while keeping tense and meaning intact. Theme: health. Reading: The New Train Line. As a final check, read the passage once more and label every verb for tense, every noun for countability, and every connector for function. Keep a short error log of your own recurring mistakes and review it before writing. This routine turns isolated rules into durable habits across all five hundred lessons.
